Giants Top 49ers 20-17 In OT to Reach Super Bowl

Giants Top 49ers 20-17 In OT to Reach Super Bowl: The New York Giants have their own Super Bowl formula: in overtime and on the road.

And with Lawrence Tynes’ foot.

Eli Manning directed one short, final drive and Tynes kicked a game-winning 31-yard field goal in overtime, sending the Giants to the Super Bowl with a 20-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game on Sunday.

In another tight one in this decades-old postseason rivalry, both defenses made key stops before New York capitalized on another costly mistake by San Francisco.

Manning and the Giants (12-7) will face the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl on Feb. 5 in Indianapolis as 3.5-point underdogs. The last time the teams met for the NFL title, 2008, the Giants ended the Patriots’ bid for a perfect season.

Tynes had a hand, er, foot in getting the Giants to that one, too, kicking the game-winning field goal in overtime at Green Bay.

Devin Thomas put the Giants in position by recovering his second fumble of the game after Jacquian Williams stripped the ball from fill-in return man Kyle Williams, who also fumbled earlier to set up a New York touchdown. Continue Reading…

Giants Vs Packers Score

Giants Vs Packers Score: Giants vs Packers score: Eli Manning 37 yard TD to Hakeem Nicks ends half time

Eli Manning drilled in a 37 yard touchdown to Hakeem Nicks to distance the Giants against the Packers 20-10 in the first half of the NFC Divisional Playoff game. Manning already completed 14 of 24 passes for 274 yards to exploit the defense of the Packers. He threw two touchdowns to Nicks as the Giants continue to dominate the top ranked Packers.

Nicks already caught five times for a whooping 152 yards that included the 66-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter and the 37-yard at the end of the second quarter. Nicks has been extricating himself from the Packers defense that couldn’t keep up with the surprise offensive package of the Giants. Victor Cruz also caught three catches for 46 yards as the Giants have the edge in the passing game.

On the other hand, the Packers offense has been stagnant though it can explode anytime with Aaron Rodgers as the anchor. Rodgers completed 12 of 21 passes for 117 yards with only a touchdown. He is being harassed and pressured by the Giants defense that he struggled most of the time. The passing game of the Packers is being tamed by the Giants defense that it couldn’t be the same like the way people expected it to be. Continue Reading…

Miss America Confronted Family Pain With Pageant

Miss America Confronted Family Pain With Pageant: The nation’s newest Miss America is a 23-year-old Wisconsin brunette who had long conversations with her family mulling whether or not to make her father’s jail time for mail fraud the heart of her campaign in the beauty pageant.

While her competitors pushed platforms including promoting the health benefits of milk and protecting the environment, Laura Kaeppeler (KEP’-ler) said she wants children of incarcerated adults to feel less alone, to have mentoring and as much of a relationship with their parents as possible.

“There are many of you out there — and I was one of them — but it doesn’t have to define you,” Kaeppeler told The Associated Press after winning the crown and $50,000 scholarship on Saturday night.

To win, she said beauty queens and politicians should remember they represent all Americans, sang an opera song and strutted in a white bikini and black evening gown.

Her looks, smarts and personal vocation impressed a panel of seven celebrity judges enough to give her the next year with the title. Continue Reading…

Leave Mark Sanchez Alone Jets Deserve More Hate

Leave Mark Sanchez Alone Jets Deserve More Hate: At least that’s the impression one gets reading Wednesday’s much-talked about New York Daily News story about the Jets quarterback.  The story, which set off a storm of controversy (both in the traditional press and on social media), cites nothing but anonymous sources, and they criticize Sanchez for everything from his playing ability to his mental toughness, calling him lazy, babied and complacent.

It’s worth noting that on the record, Sanchez is not universally despised. Teammate Nick Mangold took to Twitter calling the story “false,” adding “If ‘unnamed sources’ want to attack Mark, man up and put your name to it.” Continue Reading….

Raiders tTake Steps Away From Davis Dysfunction With Jackson Firing

Raiders tTake Steps Away From Davis Dysfunction With Jackson Firing: The Hue Jackson error in Oakland is over, and as it turns out, maybe the Raiders are starting to make progress after all.

Jackson’s firing on Tuesday after just one tumultuous season represents a clean break of sorts in Oakland, from the way things were done when Al Davis ran the whole show for decades, to the way business will now be conducted with new Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie in charge.

Jackson was the last coaching hire of Davis, the iconic Raiders owner who died in early October at 82. And his dismissal is now the first move made by McKenzie, the respected former Green Bay personnel executive who promises to bring some sense of sanity, accountability and a more traditional mode of NFL operations to Oakland.
