Oscar Nominations 2012: Oscar nominations are out and there are both surprises and notable trends. Moviegoers are rewarding films that provide a respite from the turbulent world outside the theater. And women seem to be at the forefront of the charge.

Unexpected nods for dark horse “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” about a son’s search for meaning in his father’s death, include both a supporting actor and best film nomination. Also a surprise, Terence Malick’s polarizing, “Tree of Life,” made it onto the list for best film.

Other best-film candidates include “The Artist,” “The Help,” “Hugo,” and “The Descendants.” These films all reflect a turn to nastalgia and familiy – what one pundit calls “’The Blind Side’ effect.”  Continue Reading…

People’s Choice Awards 2012 Katy Perry Harry Potter Big Winners: Katy Perry and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Hallows part 2” are the big winners on the night of the people’s choice awards. 38th Annual show held Wednesday evening in Los Angeles, celebrating the selections made by the voters of 40 million.

Absentee Perry is venerated in five categories including favorite female artist, tour Headliner, song of the year for “E.T.” by Kanye West, the music video for “last Friday night” and TV guest star on ‘ How I met your mother. ”

Although originally touted by the organizers of the show among the candidates who are expected to attend, Perry told fans on Twitter earlier this week that it will not show it, but that “I want to thank u for voting for me, crossed fingers!” it would have marked the first public appearance of Perry as British actor-comedian Russell Brand Filed for divorce from Perry last month after 14 months of marriage.
